Instapaper Free 2.1 submitted

I’ve just submitted Instapaper Free 2.1 to Apple for review. It will probably be approved within a few weeks.

Changes:

• Background updating, so you can hit Update, then read other articles as new content is downloading.
• The improved offline engine (from Instapaper Pro 2.0) broadens page compatibility, improves performance, and reduces memory usage.
• Can now Star articles from the toolbar.
• New toolbar layout with easier access to features.
• Many small improvements and fixes.
• Limited to your most recent 10 unread articles.
  Explanation, although the info is outdated: I’ve left rotation in.
• Now ad-supported.
• iPhone OS 3.0 required for interface, stability, and performance improvements.

I’ve had to change the parental-control rating to “17+” to comply with Apple’s policy on applications that can display unfiltered internet content. While the store’s page will say that it contains “Frequent/Intense Mature/Suggestive Themes”, this is simply a shortcoming of the App Store classification system – Instapaper does not include any mature, suggestive, or otherwise offensive content unless you add pages containing such content to your Instapaper account.

The same rating will apply to Instapaper Pro for the same reason with version 2.1, due out as soon as I work out some App Store submission bugs with Apple.
