Do you use Graphical mode in the iPhone app?
I’m planning to make the “new” text parser (with inline images) the default setting as soon as it’s reliable enough, probably within a month or two. Eventually I’ll turn off the old text parser, leaving only the new one and removing that option. (Why keep unnecessary options around? Eliminate clutter.)
Very few people use Graphical mode. (I don’t even like using it.) The Text mode is just so much nicer.
Most customers and reviewers don’t even realize that Graphical mode is there. But it’s hard on the server, it takes forever to download all of the graphics on the iPhone, and its presence requires a lot of code and interface clutter on both ends. It’s very difficult to read full-width graphical layouts on the iPhone screen without a lot of tedious scrolling, and the font is never what you want it to be.
Do you use Graphical mode?
Given that Text mode now includes most graphics important to the story, would you be incredibly heartbroken if I removed Graphical mode in the next major version (3.0) of the iPhone apps?
